- INSTRUCTIONS
-
- The MAIN MENU displays as follows:
-
- 1 - BY LAT AND LONG
- 2 - BY AREA
- 3 - EUROPE
- 4 - USA
- 5 - US CAPITAL CITIES
- 6 - OTHER MAJOR CITIES
- 7 - NATIONAL CAPITALS
- 8 - INPUT HURRICANE DATA
- 9 - ORTHOGRAPHIC VIEW
- 10- POINTER
- 99- EXIT

- 1.
- LAT & LONG:
- If you have the particular LATITUDE and LONGITUDE of what
- you want to look at choose option 1. You will be asked for
- LATITUDE first then LONGITUDE. DO NOT ENTER MINUTES AND
- SECONDS, however you are permitted to enter DECIMAL parts of
- a degree.

- You are then asked to enter a scaling factor (a number from
- one to five). A default scale of 3 is selected by pressing
- the enter key. The largest area is 1 and the most detailed
- is 5.

- Most areas of the western Atlantic will then ask if you
- want hurricane tracks (tracks of 1985 Atlantic hurricanes are
- included as file "TRAKS"). No tracks of hurricanes is the
- default. Hitting "Y" will read and plot tracks.

- The upper left corner will show a horizontal line which
- indicates 100 Miles on the particular map position shown

- The upper right corner of the screen will show the number of
- miles in one degree at the latitude of the center of the map
- on the screen.

- Starting on the second line of the display will be the names
- of all NATIONAL CAPITALS which appear on the display and a
- small circle identifying the capital at the appropriate
- coordinates.

- 2.& 3.
- AREA & EUROPE:
- Selected areas of the world and especially the USA are
- presented in a list. Choose by typing the capitalized
- letters for your desired area (don't use the lowercase
- letters ie. S.AM for S.AMerica). Scaling is handled by the
- program and the upper right corner of the screen displays
- the number of miles per degree at the center lat.

- USA:
- A special map of the USA including state borders.

- 5.
- STATE CAPITALS:
- State capitals are presented alphabetically and selected by
- number. You are then asked for a scaling factor as in item
- #1 and ,if appropriate, whether you want hurricane tracks.
- Again the upper left presents the 100 Mile scale, the upper
- right the miles per degree at the lat of the capital you
- selected, and on the second line any National Capitals that
- are on the visible map.

- The lower left of the screen shows the name of the capital
- that the map is centered upon. The capital is marked with a
- small circle. Its lat is show at right center and and long
- at bottom center.

- OTHER CITIES:
- Thirty eight selected cities are displayed alphabetically and
- allow selection by number. Scaling factors and hurricane
- track questions are as in #1. 100 mile indicator, miles per
- degree and National Caps are as above. The name of the city
- and its Lat and Long. are also displayed.

- NATIONAL CAPITALS:
- 116 randomly selected national capitals are displayed in
- alphabetical order on 2 pages. Select by number. 999 for
- additional pages. As in previous options scale and hurricane
- requests (when appropriate) are asked for. The 100 mile
- line, miles per degree, center location and other visible
- capitals are displayed as above.

- HURRICANE DATA:
- Allows you to keep track of future Atlantic
- Hurricanes. It asks the storm's name first, then date in MMDD
- form, then type (Hurricane tropicalStorm tropicalDepresion
- or Other),then lat and long. It will then ask if you have
- data on other storms (default is no). You are then asked if
- you want the display of hurricane data. If you respond "y"
- then a display will be generated centered upon your last
- storm data with a 100 mile radius circle around it.
- All appropriate data will be displayed as above.

- ORTHOGRAPHIC VIEW:
- Asks for viewing long. (default is 0 deg)
- then presents an image of the world which is Orthographically
- corrected for your selected long. The display is always from
- 180 deg west to 180 deg east so watch the world distort as
- you view it from different longitudes.

- POINTER:
- A Mercator projection of the world is displayed
- with a pointer located in the Atlantic Ocean. Use your
- cursor or number keys to position the cursor at the location
- you desire to examine. As the cursor moves its lat and long
- will be indicated. When it is near where you want it hit the
- ENTER key and the cursor will become the center of an
- expanded view. You can now reposition the cursor and expand
- again by hitting ENTER. Including the full world map you
- have five expansions. Expansion beyond the fifth level
- returns the world map. Hitting the "E" key at any level
- returns you to the Menu.

- Exit:
- Provides a graceful exit to DOS from the MAIN MENU.

- GENERAL
-
- MOST INPUTS HAVE A DEFAULT. IF NOT SPECIFIED ON THE SCREEN THE
- PROGRAM WILL USE YOUR LAST RESPONSE TO A SPECIFIC REQUEST.THERE
- ARE NO DEFAULTS WHERE YOU ARE TO TYPE A SPECIFIC NAME. HOWEVER
- YOU CAN GENERALLY DEFAULT FROM ONE DISPLAY TO ANOTHER WITHOUT
- CHANGING LAT & LONG. YOU WILL NOTE THE ABSENCE OF BOUNDARY LINES
- IN ALL EXCEPT NORTH & CENT AMERICA AND WESTERN EUROPE. ADDING
- THEM WILL SLOW DOWN PROCESSING
